Artist Showcase – Larry Bell

About the Artist
Larry Bell, born in Chicago in 1939, studied at the Chouinard Art Institute (now Cal Arts) in Los Angeles. He was part of the group of artists of the “light and space” movement which also included Robert Irwin, Doug Wheeler and James Turrell. In his work Bell specifically examines how the advances of modern technology have changed the way in which human bodies interact, on a physical as well as psychic plane. He alters and manipulates the perceptions of his spectators, and challenges their conception of visual space and their relationship to it. Bell lives and works in Taos, New Mexico.
