In 1998, New Mexico CultureNet inaugurated WebSlam, an online poetry contest for high school students from all over our state. 2006 marks the eighth anniversary of WebSlam. The program has been successful, bridging geographical divides and bringing together people who otherwise would have never met. During the first eight years, schools from cities and towns all over New Mexico participated, including Albuquerque, Angel Fire, Animas, Bernalillo, Bloomfield, Clayton, Española, Fort Wingate, Gadsdon, Las Cruces, Las Vegas, Los Alamos, The Navajo Nation, Quemado, Questa, Reserve, Rio Rancho, San Jon, Santa Fe, Shiprock, Socorro, Taos, and Wagon Mound.
