New Mexico CultureNet partners with schools, school districts, agencies of government, and nonprofit organizations to produce the highly acclaimed Poets-in-the-Schools program. CultureNet staff screens, hires and evaluates poets who work directly in classrooms with students and teachers. CultureNet also provides funding for one-on-one mentoring of highly motivated students and English Language Learners. In addition, CultureNet has joined forces with New Mexico Higher Education Department, The Center for the Study and Education of Diverse Populations and other GEAR-UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) programs to provide literacy enhancement programs for students in our state.
