Round 1

Choose one:

  • Imagine you've been blindfolded and taken to some strange location. Visualize what this strange place might look like. Is it indoors or out? Cold, or hot, or mild? What colors, sounds, objects, people, animals, etc. do you experience there? What does this strange landscape reveal to you about life, the earth, people, etc?

  • Describe how someone you love looks. Refrain from using words like "beautiful," "handsome," "cute," etc. Use their appearance as a springboard for expressing something deeper that you feel about them.

  • Look at a work of visual art-painting, print, sculpture, photo, etc.-and describe what you see. Don't use words such as "like," "good," "weird," etc. Spend a few moments taking an inventory of what is there and describe it. This will give you a pretty good idea of the artist's intentions; comment upon them as well. If possible, go to a museum, gallery, someone's home or studio to look at the work of art. Calm yourself by taking a few deep breaths and relaxing.

Sequence

i have been kissed
licorice licked
you don't want this
respect your existence as she cringed
he, man, soft brown eyes
spread twig-thigh-twig-thigh
face to side
losing her life all nipples and doll like
"come out!" he cries, "share your fight"
damn...she hide
"BITCH"
chase
grip
flesh flesh slap crack
floor to back
laying in red ego, eyes roll to black
" mama there's been a mistake
i lost love
found hate
hurry this kids gonna break
i never wanted to imitate dada's take"
you're smiling?
god
i'm not a saint
i'm not here to sooth your pain
this is a picture of my life
who's there to say "it's gonna be alright"
you're so scared you only recognize light
there's more inside
i am not better
i am not bigger
i don't have hidden sight
smooth perfection
she sits crossed, folded into beauty,
and dies

"Someone I Love"

My brother likes to go free
in and out of doors he'll be
always on the run
always alert like a loaded gun
strong as an ox.
Lonely nights for mom when he's
trapped in a box.
My brother will never learn
like a match that will never burn.
But until then
He knows I still love him.

Untitled

A pristine world untouched by man
Seen now before my eyes
Creatures only dreamt before,
Their spirits present and seen.
Have I till now been blind
Of worlds not truly beyond me?
For now I see with perfect clarity
The life shared by every rock and beast.
I see them now, they are all around
Everywhere I glance.

Why did it take so long
To hear the wolf for what he is?
The eagle’s defiant call not a cry at the moon,
But at me for not seeing it so soon.
Oh the sigh of the earth sounding beneath my
Feet, have we really taken so much that us she
Cannot keep. Every screech, every cry
Everything lets out a sigh.
All o’er the earth I know now that this land
Is one last chance for our lives
To sustain, oh so that we could remain
On this earth on these plains
On the rivers and mountain range.
One more chance one more try
Lest the earth should heave another sigh.
Withdraw her gifts, take away her life
Leave us all barren and dry.

Un

High 5 alive
Kids take flight like luxury liner
like bad morning breath at the diner on the corner
suncrest my best bet at twelve hours til my next rest
twelve hours until the rest of my life passes me by
His fly is open
his expectations are hanging out
he says cangratulations for finally finding out the shortest path is a straight line.

Blackout!

I don't like it.
It's hot and there are 8 people
crammed in a five-seat car
I can't see 'cause I'm drunk
I don't even know if we're moving
I don't feel drunk. I feel fine.
I just did a line.
Best drug in the world
Best feeling I've ever had

Now we're somewhere new
A new hot, stuffy place
It's crowded
I can't see
There's music, loud music and people
keep bumping into me
Everybody's sloppy
No one looks good
They're all gutter trash
And I'm one of them

One of the alcoholics getting
drunker by the day

I keep going back
back to this life
I'm an alcoholic
No! Don't drink
Just one more drink
I'll be fine
And then a line

Back! Go back!
Back to the day before this day
Before I was in rehab and prison for life
before I killed 5 of my friends

I wish I'd taken my own life
cut with a knife

Dancing, slipping, falling
but someone caught me
and we're moving as one body
out of the party
To another party
from the dance floor
A private party
Now we're getting comfortable
But it's uncomfortable
I don't want to do this
I don't want to do this
I don't want to do this
STop!
Blackout.

Untitled

(I sincerely apologize, but my server has been down until about 6:45 and I have not been capable of getting online until this very moment (6:50) I hope you will please excuse this lateness as it was beyond my control.)

It is said eyes are windows to one's soul.
Her lids are never shut to anyone.
The strawberry smile is warming to the heart
Placed ever neatly for eternity.
Her flowing hair, so endless in amount
Like the love I have for her.
Never before have I loved another
The way I love her.
Never before have I come across one
Whose talented fingers can massage the keys of a piano,
Playing melodious tunes to my heart.

Forever I shall love her,
Eternally with me she stays.
If she is one day to be gone,
I will miss her
But her words and ideas
Will remain inside me always.

Luna

Brought to life by silver moon light,
She stands against the faded brightness,
In the company of a barbed cactus blossom.
Their shadows glow crimson across the orange desert.
Unimpressed grains of sand catch the wind
As they swirl around her ruby swathe,
And reach out to a backdrop of purple dunes,
Whose silhouettes touch the blaze of dusk dappled with stars.
The arc of the crescent hangs vivid upon the sapphire sky,
Reflecting the mystery of the night in her eyes.

Deeper Into You

The time I've spent with you
has increased my outer view
beyond the scrawny, awkward boy
to reveal a flame that burns bright and true.

I only hope that you can see
the being deep inside of me;
though I appear cynical, without a care,
my world is prone to injury.

Maybe God has placed us here
to make another's image clear,
that love is worth the chance and sacrifice;
all that holds us back is fear.

Andrew

A solid warm body.
Safety in strong arms.
A warm, firm stomach;
A perfect pillow for easy napping.
Small, sexy ass,
A testament of a great lover.

A soft mouth, quick to smile,
Perfect for kissing away tears.
Flashing white teeth,
Dancing in a contagious grin.
Sharp jaw line,
Quick to emotions, but hid by the firmness of that same jaw.

A touch of green in brown eyes,
Hinting at playfulness buried in steadfastness.
Feathery, dark line of sleeping lashes,
Depicting a soft innocent nature.
Large almond eyes,
Grinning as wide as any smile.

Innocently sexy.

Forbidden Love

I see you as forbidden fruit
Something I cannot have.
Your tired eyes hold my secrets
None of which I can tell.
Light brown eyes with a gentle brow go through faces like cards in a deck,
Each with the same opinion.
When you smile I see loves weakness
And when you talk I hear loves hell.
You tease my heart,
Rejecting me,
But drawing me in closer.
A quickened blush and brightened eyes,
Like a schoolgirls first crush.
Chains and bondage draw our line
Connecting us between.
I look beneath your shadowed heart,
Just to find that perplexed boy.
It makes me want to hold you tighter
Never letting go.
But I can’t bare my own cruel thoughts
Of you and me together
But we’ll go on day after day
And I’ll love you just the same.

My stranger

Why do you remind me of the one I lust
If I don’t even know your name?
My mind knows your simple thoughts,
Which I perceive through brown eyes when you glance
At passing people in the hall.
You are full of knowledge
Which you don’t believe you know you have.
It is hidden within and
Trapped beneath passing thoughts.
Your hair shapes your face
As though it held it in forbidden hands.
Your smile isn’t obvious at first glance
But deep within,
Reaches out and places me
In Cupid’s trance.

I feel you trespassing upon myself
But do not stop the molestation.
I hear your hands snap impatiently
As you wish you had
So much more to grasp.
The body attached to your side
Holds you back from your true self.

I know so much,
Which I wish I had,
I love you even though,
You aren’t the one I know.

Blind Journey

Where I stand?
Location undecided
Looking at waves splashing
Back of my eyelids,
Visual taste
Complexion flavor
Pineapple raspberry
Tropical rainforest
Cut canalope,
Wet brain
Tang juice music
Toasted island feet
Sun sprinkled sand
Cocanut palm blend
And a
Sunset smoothie to go!

"Love could be for me."

Love could be for me,
many come and go.

many fall beside the pool of tears.

"My Heart"

My heart was full of love
until you broke my heart apart.
My heart was whole but now it's
all bold and cold.
My heart was a treasure full of gold,
but now its sold.
My heart is just plain now that I
have gone insane,
without thinking with my brain.
So now I've got no shame
in this endless pain,
because I don't like to play games.

Idealistic Desires

His eyes are as soft
as nebulous vapors.
His flaxen hair complements his
summer-bronzed complexion.
His flawless face has the stubble
of a day old beard.
His body—oh his body,
glimmers in the sunlight,
during a hard day’s work.
His protruding muscles show
through his sweaty tank top.
His best physical feature
is his pearly-white grin.
His voluptuous lips are
passionately eager.
His firm hands gently
caress me.
His stout shoulders are always
there to bear
my frustrations.
Unfortunately, this man has yet
to grace me with his presence.

Silent Voices

A picture less than words
Colors blurred on one canvas
Words and faces combined

Depicting a limitless imagination
All in vivid colors and shapes
Words dotting the shapes

Silent voices slowly unfold
In this mindful tapestry
Of color, faces, and words

A time-consuming work of art
Solidly made and molded from thoughts
Brought to life by the imagination

Colors glorifying a bleak canvas
Words describing boundless thoughts
And faces lying upon walls

A Special Place Inside

Cautiously walking along the trail, unable to see anything,
As the blindfold is lifted from my face he reveals a fantastic view.
Nothing filling the air with smoke or pollution,
No one poisoning the beautiful sounds with car horns or loudness,
Brilliant stars sparkling brightly in the deep blue sky trimmed lightly with silver, The sweet smell of a summer’s mist floods my breath,
Tasting fresh dew on my lips still moist from the sprinkle,
Faintly, the sound of trees rustling and crickets chirping is all around me,
Gazing across the unusually green fields rolling softly due to the breeze,
Mountains touch the sky as if reaching for the heavens above,
Feelings of being loved fill my heart as I peer across the horizon,
My tears of joy slide down my cheeks as I glide slowly along the path,
A path leading deeper into the darkness of this place,
I reach for comfort in a simple touch of a hand,
Finding only the soft, smooth hand of my love,
His eyes shimmer as the stars dance in his blue eyes,
The gentle breeze softly brushes his gorgeous blonde hair across his pale face,
A warm feeling of not being alone fills our bodies as we walk,
Our hands intertwined, proving our love for one another,
Just another day, another walk, another place, in which we can conquer as one,
This place that I have been describing is a place in my heart,
Only one person can lead me to this place, whether blindfolded or eyes wide open,
Only I can see it, but its pictures lie in my mind,
And only one thing can be said, it’s the most beautiful place I will ever find.

Silent Covenant

When I look into your hazel eyes,
I see your thoughts and dreams
When I listen to your comforting words
I hear more than what you say,
I hear the unspoken promises,
I hear the passion in your voice,
When you touch me,
I can feel the fire flow from your fingertips,
I can feel how much you love me,
When I lay my head upon your brawny chest,
I can hear the words ‘I Love You’, with every heartbeat.
When I place the palm of my hand over your heart,
I can feel it beat faster,
I can feel the safety and security you bestow,
As you wrap your powerful arms around me,
I feel no pain as you steal my heart,
With first one kiss, and then another,
An unsteady and unstable breath escapes my mouth,
As you reluctantly pull away,
Your sweet voice says ‘goodnight’
But your eyes say ‘don’t go’
And even though we have to part,
The heart-wrenching pain I feel every time I have to leave,
Will soon fade away,
Because, when I look into your hazel eyes,
And when I feel your soft lips brush against mine,
I have the promise we will meet again.

Looking Beyond

I feel I have failed
And in failing, lost you
I wish I could reverse what I've done
Obliterate the vice I've caused you
Yet it's almost too late

I cannot look beyond what you have become
I believe I lost sight of what truly matters
Not appearance, intellect, power, or money, but the soul
The only circumstance a person should be judged by
The only thing I should have loved you for

You are now only a shadow of the man you once were
Your vibrant eyes altered into a dull, lifeless shade of green
Your magnificently sculpted body became limp and useless
Your hair, which used to catch the rays of the sun, now falls in forgotten strands
And your voice, the slow, deep strum of it, is substantially useless

I grieve for my loss
My selfishness depicts my true character
I want our life together to return to the way it used to be
Everything has changed so much
Yet I know that nothing will ever be the same

It has been over a year since the war
Since you came home to me wounded and encumbered
I'm still adjusting to the dramatic transformation
You won't speak of it, or anything else for that matter
And I've almost lost faith

I implore for understading and guidance
For the ability to love you for the sweet clarity of your soul
And although it is taking time, I'm aspiring closer
My purpose is to love you for who you are, not who you were
God willing, I pray that someday I can look beyond
