Poetry Jam 2004April 1 & 2 – Santa Fe, New Mexico What is Poetry Jam?Poetry Jam 2004 is the third annual gathering of high school students and teachers to participate in workshops, readings and slams led by outstanding New Mexico poets. Where is Poetry Jam being held?Poetry Jam 2004 will be held at El Museo Cultural (map), located in the Santa Fe Railyard, at 1615-B Paseo de Peralta, across the street from Warehouse 21 and Site Santa Fe. Phone: 505-992-0591 Conference MotelThe conference motel is Santa Fe Budget Inn, 725 Cerrillos Road (map), a five-minute walk to El Museo Cultural. Each room has two double beds. The Poetry Jam 2004 rate is $64.80 per night. There is a 50% off breakfast coupon for El Comedor, a restaurant located next door to the motel. School groups visiting from outside Santa Fe should contact Alex Traube—not the motel—with their room requests. Poetry Jam Events Open to the PublicThis year’s event will include two performances open to the public. Participants will take part in a poetry slam on Thursday, April 1, at 7:00 p.m. at El Museo Cultural (map). On Friday, April 2, at 7:00 p.m., participants will give a public performance at the Lensic Performing Arts Center (map). This performance will also include poetry set to music. The Desert Chorale Children’s Chorus and members of the Santa Fe New Music Youth Ensemble will perform three pieces. There will also be a special guest appearance by internationally acclaimed mezzo soprano, Janice Felty, who will perform poems set to music. Public performances are pay-what-you-can, with nobody turned away for lack of funds. Who can I talk to for more information?
